Student Leadership

Students at HHS show leadership in a number of ways.

Recently, students in Years 8-10 have supported local primary schools to run their sport days. The Yarra sporting district includes a number of local primary schools. Healesville High students have supported three key events; the Yarra District Cross Country, the Yarra District Tabloid Sport day and the Yarra District Athletics.

Initially, we were only scheduled to help at one event, however, because students did such an exceptional job, their assistance was requested at the other events. Involvement in these events not only supports local primary schools and students, but it also provides an important opportunity for students to demonstrate leadership skills and to build their confidence.

Thank you to Mahendra Mehra and Kerry Davies for supporting this initiative.

Here is some positive feedback from two

primary school staff members:

I just wanted to drop you a line today to say how wonderful your students were that attended and supported the District Aths Day.

The Healesville High School students were polite, courteous, extremely supportive of our younger children and were a huge help on the day.

It was such a busy day and your senior students did such a great job in running events, marshalling children and supporting them to complete the activity.

I think the highlight of my day was the patience demonstrated by one of your boys in trying to explain to my Year 3 student how to hold a discuss.

He got it in the end and then threw a 5,  just about taking the marshall out!

I am sure you are very proud of your students, however I just wanted to share my admiration.

I had two boys helping me on high jump throughout the program and I was very impressed with their initiative and willingness to help. Two girls ran the distance run on their own and they were fantastic. To be asked on arrival who would be willing to take on an event on their own these two girls stepped up and did an amazing job. I also received a lot of compliments and asked to pass on their thanks from the teachers that were running events to your students. There was only 12 of them that made it on the day but they were all extremely supportive and willing to try and help above what was expected from them.

They were a credit to your school and staff.

Hopefully we can have your students help out again in the future, they are becoming increasingly more important for us to provide valuable programs for our schools.
