The Trades Fit Expo

On Tuesday 17th May, a small group of Year 9/10 students attended The Trades Fit: Young Women in Trades and Tech Expo held at Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. This expo showcased employment options within the trades and tech industries for young women including Engineering, Construction, Automotive, Agriculture, IT and many more.

There were many interactive displays and the girls had a great time trying their hand at electrical wiring, using virtual reality for building design, scooping up prizes with an excavator, bricklaying, stepping into a Mack truck, and controlling robotics.

The girls walked away with a plethora of resources to help them make informed decisions about their future pathways. Well done to the girls that came along, represented the college brilliantly and stepped outside of their comfort zone to explore the options that were out there for them in fields that are typically male-dominated industries. Less than 3% of tradies in the industry are female and the incredible support these women have for one another and their passion for the work they do really inspired the girls to follow their dreams.

Thank you to Ms Nicole Green, Mr Venkata Kalva, Mr Ross McLaughlin and Ms Bridgett Dowling for making the day a success.
