Acting Principal's Message

Diverse ~ Accepting ~ Inclusive Community

Dear Friends and Families,

We continue to run a vaccination clinic for our students with the assistance of our new nurse, Lyndall Connell and our Senior First Aider, Deb Page.  I also need to mention the amazing organisational skills of Jen Robinson and our gap student, Justin Rueca, who do everything in their power to make the day run smoothly. We’re also grateful to the community nurses that come in to run these clinics on a regular basis.

On Wednesday our Patron and Her Honour The Administrator, the Honourable Vicki O’Halloran visited the College and looked at the development of the Year 12 outdoor area and the grounds for the Discovery Centre. She had morning tea with the College Captains and attended assembly where she judged the character costumes for our Reading Week. The Honourable Joshua Burgoyne MLA also attended and assisted Her Honour to choose the winners. I’d like to congratulate all the staff and students who dressed up in their favourite fictional character. I would also like to thank Sue Herbert, Head of English, for her efforts in making the assembly meaningful and entertaining.

We observed a minute silence on Friday morning in respect to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and her 70 years of service to the Commonwealth. I distinctly remember her visit more than 20 years ago and walking students down to the Todd Mall to watch her greet the people of Alice Springs. It was an exciting event for the town, and we were further rewarded by Prince Philip handing out the Duke of Edinburgh awards to our students at a ceremony that evening.

Upper Todd Landcare had a huge turnout of students along with Vicki Hutchinson and Sandi Crogan to pick up rubbish and remove buffel grass in our area. They enjoyed a pancake breakfast as a well-deserved reward for their efforts.

Half of the Year 10 students are on work experience next week and the Year 12s will start Intensive Study Days for non-examinable subjects.

Only two more weeks of this term and still lots of work to do!

Kind regards,
