Up Leveling Vocabulary

Up leveling our Vocabulary is continuing this week with the whole school now participating.

Kindergarten all have the same word taken from their book focus in IntiaLit. Year One's word has been taken from their writing.

Year 2 and Year 3 have given their students a choice of words taken from their writing and reading.

Year 4 Up-Level their writing

Here are some fantastic examples of the wonderful writing Year 4 are doing with their up-levelled vocabulary words.

The Golden Slam by Thomas Martin
The ball shot through the air, breaking the speed of sound! Blue flames ignited in my eyes! The racquet glowed brighter than the midday sun “ARGHHH!” I screamed, rain pouring down my face, the smell of petrichor drifted into my nostrils. The ball collided with my racquet releasing so much pressure I needed to apply all my strength to the shot. “YAAAAAAAH!” The ball was flung across the court with such might it knocked the opponents racquet out of their grasp.
The point had been won and like a dragon at battle they accepted defeat and held their racquet up to tap. “You played well”, I said as he walked off. ‘How impervious of him…’ I thought to myself. As he walked off his face was lugubrious.
We had played for 2 hours straight and I was super tired and wanted a rest, so while story me has a nice relaxing sleep I can tell you, dear reader, what really happened shortly before… We had been rallying for a long amount of time. We were setting off power shots every now and then. His groans were epizeuxis as he hit the ball. I was alert and ready the whole match waiting for the big shot. Sweat trickled down my palms and onto the racquet. And then it happened. (If you have forgotten please read the start of the story.)

First Day of Junior Netball by Ruby Edwards
Have you ever had an exciting sporting moment? In fact, I have. It was raining, I could smell the petrichor hitting the surface. The weather was very lugubrious. The game was about to start and I’m playing Centre and it was my opponent's ball.
It was five minutes into the game and the other team had five points. Our  team (Magic) was off to a bad start. I was pretty sure we would catch up. I looked across to my teammate, who was standing there with disappointed eyes. I walked over and said, “It will be alright”. I helped her up because she had just tripped, then we got back to the game!
It was now the second quarter. By the last round we had got ten points while the other team had eleven. The thing I loved was that my coach had very good sportsmanship and never got mad at us. She would just say, “nice try”. By the end of the second quarter we had fifteen points. What a good round as WA .
Buzzz! The buzzer went for half time. Five minutes later the game started again. I was GA and we had five points to catch up. As the round finished I got the ball in the goal circle. UP! UP! AND UP the ball went into the goal! YES!!!! My team cheered. I saw the other team as they walked off disappointed. I walked over and said, “nice try”.
What an impervious game I played that day.
