Eucalyptus Update

Molly Ingram

More than halfway through the term!

Eucalyptus has been working really hard this term and has been able to participate in a number of exciting experiences, all while still looking forward to our Portsea Camp!

We recently had a STEAM incursion (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics), organised by the brilliant Molly Cook, in which we were really lucky to have Taree Mackenzie come and set up a number of exciting experiences that involved exploring shadows, different types of colour light mixing and creating a range of puppets.

In Reading, we have been looking at a number of texts that are relevant to our Inquiry of Australia’s history of Federation. We have been looking at texts about Australia as a country, Cathy Freeman and her historical significance and the songs and life of Archie Roach, a First Nations singer/songwriter who was part of the Stolen Generations. We have now moved on to our second Unit of Study which we are focusing on poetry and how authors use different types of poetic devices to achieve different purposes.

In Writing, we have just finished up exploring information reports, to create a real-world connections we have been looking at Behind the News and discussing the features of information reports while learning about current events or significant moments in Australian History. We have now moved on to our next Unit of Study that is focusing on poetry, we have been exploring different forms of poetry, such as Free Verse and Limericks, we have been taking inspiration from these poems and seeing how we can enhance our writing by using some of the technique’s poet use.

In Mathematics, we continue to work on Fractions, Decimals, Money and Financial Mathematics, we’re learning to work out what the best discounts are!
