Bottlebrush Update

Louise Taylor

Happy National Book Week from Bottlebrush.

This week we celebrated Book Week. Students enjoyed making Stellaelephant and bottlebrush decorations for our book wall, masks of our favourite book characters and dressing up for our book parade.

In Writing, we have been learning about nonfiction texts. We have written books about Firefighters and Hand Hygiene. Students have focused on sentence structure – including a WHO, WHAT DOING, WHAT – and including an interesting start when writing facts.

In Reading, we have been exploring how to read and understand nonfiction texts. We have explored the features of nonfiction texts, using word parts when reading tricky words, and how to use captions to add to our understanding.

In Mathematics, we have been learning about subtraction. We have investigated subtraction through takeaway, missing part and difference problems. We are learning different strategies to solve subtraction problems, and that it is important to “show what we know”.

We have also been lucky to have gone on two excursions recently. We went to the Arts Centre to watch a play called ‘Creation Creation’. It was all about answering the big questions in life. We have also been to Essendon Traffic School, to learn all about staying safe around roads.

A reminder to families, we encourage students to read each night (and return their reading folders daily) and practice their M100W words each night.

Thanks,

Louise, Susan, Oli and Akut.
