Science Afternoon

What a fabulous afternoon we had celebrating Science Week. Molly C did such an awesome job organising lots of fun, engaging activities for the students and their families to take part in. I particularly enjoyed creating the Glow Jars. It was great to see the level of community involvement.

Book Week Celebrations

Book Week celebrations were in full swing last week! It was so good to see so many students dress up and participate in the parade. It was even more exciting to see the number of families who attended. We love having you all back involved in the school activities.

Scholastic Book Fair

The Scholastic Book Fair will be taking place in the old Banksia Room each day from Monday 29 August until Friday 2 September. Students and parents are invited to come along to find some new books to take home whilst at the same time earning free books for our library.

Prep 2023 Enrolments

We already have 19 Preps enrolled for 2023! This is the most we have had in many years and we are excited to see how many more we get!!!! This is such an exciting time at Debney Meadows Primary School.

Any parents with younger children at home (who will be of school age in 2023) are asked to collect and return an enrolment form as soon as possible. We also ask that you share this information with families in our community who also need to enrol their child. Let them know just how fantastic our school is and to contact the office to book in a school tour.

We have school tours available for all prospective families as well as Q&A sessions, during which families are able to receive information about our school and ask questions. The Q&A sessions will be conducted via Webex and are scheduled for:

Wednesday 7th September 2:15pm - 2:45pm

Wednesday 7th September 5pm-5:30pm

Wednesday 26th October 2:15pm - 2:45pm

Wednesday 26th October 5pm-5:30pm

For further information, please direct any family and/or friends who are interested in enrolling their child at Debney Meadows Primary School, to either contact the school on 9376 1570 or to visit the school’s website https://www.debneymeadowsps.vic.edu.au/

Cook and Connect

Last week I attended our second Cook and Connect program. What a treat to try Ayan’s dish of Sugaar and Malawah. It warms my heart to see so many of our community members taking part in this program. Not only are they cooking but they are also working with an English Language Teacher to assist with Reading and Writing. The younger children are loving the Developmental Play while the mums have been cooking. Everyone is invited to attend from 9:30-12pm (feel free to come in early and have a cuppa at drop off if that is easier).

Danny Pearson MP

On Friday Danny Pearson, Local Member for Essendon came for a school tour and visit. The Junior School Council reps did an amazing job of the tour and showcased some of our wonderful work. As well as celebrating our hard work we also voiced some of the concerns we have in regards to the school building and accessibility. Danny has a lot of information to take back and consider.

Community Hub Events

I encourage you to look over the many opportunities that we have for our community and the programs that we are running. A lot of time goes into organising such events and we would love to see many more families taking part.

A reminder to all parents that we have a student free day on Thursday 15th September. This will be a staff planning day for Term 4. The last day of term is Friday 16th September and school will finish at 1:45pm. We are excited to share that we will be running a Community Hub Celebration. We will send home more information in regards to this day through Compass. It is an event NOT to be missed!
