From the Art Room

This term in Art Club students from Years 3-6 have been learning to crochet and knit. It has been lovely watching people learn new skills and help one another. Our aim is to get good enough to create enough work to yarn bomb some of the poles around our school.

Yarn bombing is an activity of covering objects or structures in public places with decorative knitted or crocheted material, as a form of street art.

Because we are just learning and it’s taking a while for us to make the necessary pieces, we are asking for volunteers in our Great Ryrie community to assist us. If you are good at crocheting or knitting and would like to make a few squares to add to our work, it would be a great help. We are looking for pieces that are about 15cm in size (can be square or rectangular) – the brighter, the better.

Students in Art Club will continue to learn and make what we can for the rest of this term, so if you have any time to help us out, we would really appreciate it. This could be a great family activity, involving all generations, and contributing to a community effort.

If you would like to contribute, please send in your work to Mrs Bosomworth via the office or in the Art Room. We would love to keep a record of all who contribute, so please make sure that your work is labelled (just an accompanying piece of paper is fine) with all who helped.

We look forward to seeing your contributions!
