SAKG NEWS

As we enter Week 9 it is our last kitchen/garden rotation for the term.  Students have been cooking a variety of dishes across the various grades. Grade 1s have been making toasties accompanied by banana and berry milkshakes, 2s - have been making toasties, communal soup and white chocolate crackles and then 3s-6s have been making, Korean pancakes, apple and ricotta fritters and garden soup.

In the garden the focus has been on mini beasts. Students have been looking at beneficial insects (the good bugs – such as bees) along with the bad (snails and slugs). They have been put to work as pest controllers, trying to protect our plants.  In addition to this the students have continued to do seed sorting, an activity to make our garden more self-sufficient.

This week we have also had some little visitors in the garden.  A number of kindergarten students have been lucky enough to explore our amazing garden, visiting the animals with great interest being shown towards the guinea pigs.

Our ongoing thankyou goes out to Tim Walker, Dot (Jack W’s aunty) and Dawn for continued support behind the scenes in both the kitchen and garden. Tim has been busily preparing garden beds so our summer crops can go in, along with general tidy ups.  Similarly in the kitchen Dawn continues to be our spring cleaning fairy, tackling those jobs that too often get put off.  And Dot is that familiar face in both the kitchen and garden, volunteering her time to help with the running of classes. Their efforts are like gold so THANK-YOU, THANK-YOU, THANK-YOU!

Lastly a special mention goes to Jack W's grandpa who has kindly donated a beanstalk, to be planted in the garden.  This was a token of appreciation and to reflect his joy gained from attending the amazing school concert last week – just GOLD!

And as the term draws to a close we are calling out to any families who would like to host our guinea pigs over the upcoming holidays.  Anybody who is interested please don’t hesitate to contact Mrs Ruddick or Mrs O’Brien and we can arrange for their collection.
