Catastrophe Scale

“I always tried to turn every disaster into an opportunity.” John D. Rockefeller

Dear Families,

This week I’ve been fortunate to spend time with some parents at the Anxiety and Resilience Workshops. I always feel honoured to be in the presence of many of you people who are willing to look at ways to be better parents, and to help our children be more independent and resilient. We all know that it can be a tough job, and we don’t always get it right. One quote that stands out for me, is from American Politician Jane D. Hull: “At the end of the day, the most overwhelming key to a child's success is the positive involvement of parents.”

One thing we talked about was the Catastrophe Scale (click here for some posters). We sometimes use this at school if a child is worried or concerned about something. It can be a useful tool to help us regulate and to calm down when needed. You might like to use one at home with your child. You may even like to create one together, as a more personalised Catastrophe Scale could be more powerful!

Dad’s Workshop

Early next term, I’ll be running a parent workshop tailored for Dads. There will be a special guest and we’ll be having an informal evening, chatting about the challenges and successes of fatherhood. Details to come in the newsletter early next term.
