A very brave effort by Riley Jensen in defense to stand up against some big opponents and Caitlin Pickett for coming so close to scoring the winning goal. Well done blue team!

Lockleys Jets

On Saturday morning the Jets made the trek out North to play North Western Catholic. On a small oval we encountered our first real jumper clash for the season. With two very similar looking jumpers we played with our jumpers inside out.  (No need to wash them over the holidays!!!) The game itself suited NWC as they had reduced the size of the oval so much our fast onballers and small forwards were not able to use the open space. Like most sides coming off the bye we were a little sluggish early in the game but after a half time “go and earn your oranges” spray there was a great response.

Play of the day was Jed Thomas through the middle; he couldn’t pick the ball up and had to paddle it along the ground past a couple of opposition players and kept on it to eventually pick the ball up and set up a shot at goal. It was great to see him keep the ball in front and not give up on it after it bounced the other way. Emma Allibon-Burns played another great game and again showed some great defensive skills. Lachlan Calvert took some strong contested marks and his pressure skills were again excellent. Lachlan Slattery and Kingsley Smith played tagging roles this week and whilst they didn’t have their normal influence they significantly slowed the opposition and showed great discipline to stick to their tasks. Jaxon Kable launched a big barrel from a kick in that set up a great forward entry and even had the other coach commenting. Looks like we have found a kick in specialist. Beau Cockrum continued his good form and is developing as a great little small forward. Archer Wilson showed some great run breaking the lines a couple of times but really needed the extra space to stretch out and hurt the opposition more. Chase Wilson, Alex Slattery, Henry West and Seth Thomas again showed glimpses of their potential and will be great contributors in future years.

Special thanks to James Slattery for taking training for me last week. Also to Jai Cockrum for his help and even goal umpiring before his game. France Slattery, the oranges were once again a highlight and all the Jets thoroughly love their Vitamin C dose at 3 quarter time. We have a couple of weeks off now and are looking forward to some solid games once school returns.
