Year 11 Unit 2 - Outcome 3 - Design Process
Students had to address the following brief using the design process to produce a final presentation.
Geoff Ellenor, a lecturer of Sustainable Environments at Melbourne University wants to promote ecological living in Australia by building a village of Earthships in the remote location of Roxby Downs in South Australia. He has bought a hundred acres of land and would like to create a green community consisting of approximately 25 homes constructed as Earthships, which he would then sell as investment properties.
Geoff Ellenor is taking proposals from designers that meet the ecological requirements of Earthships whilst at the same time exploring creative designs that consider the surrounding environment. He wants a final presentation in the form of an A2 poster that explains and highlights the features of the Earthship design. It is important that the presentation will promote an ecological and environmentally sustainable lifestyle by meeting the below criteria.
- The Earthship must provide plenty of natural light and reflect the natural environment
- The Earthship must be suitable for a family of at least three
- The Earthship must include a greenhouse section for the production of food
Year 8A Bird Mobile
Students applied their knowledge of Design Elements and Principles when creating their bird mobile. They experimented with Illustrator digitally or used manual skills to create a pattern to place on a bird mobile template. This work was produced on card, cut out and made into a mobile.
Year 9 Drink Label
Students investigated how designers glamorise products in order to attract the consumer’s attention. They applied this knowledge to create a label to promote their new drink. Students either used manual drawing techniques or utilised Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop to create their final design.
