Year 8 Humanities – Mordialloc Beach

On Tuesday 23rd November Year 8 and 7B students attended a fieldtrip to Mordialloc Beach. Despite the wind, rain and cold students had a fun time trying to work out how human and natural processes change coastal landscapes.

The wind and wave action on the day were perfect to identify the natural change. Unfortunately, the weather kept people away from the beach, therefore making it difficult for students to conduct surveys.

Student behaviour was exemplary from start to finish. Thank you, students, and thank you staff. Thank you also to Tejia Geortsacos, our photographer on the day.

Legal Studies Excursion

On 11th November, the Year 11 Legal Studies class went on an excursion to the Parliament of Victoria. We participated in a role-play about the Voluntary Assisted Dying Bill 2017 which was an example of law reform coming from a parliamentary committee inquiry.

Each of us took the role of a member or officer of the Legislative Assembly. We learned about the process of the law being made and participated in the second reading stage by debating the Voluntary Assisted Dying Bill in the actual Legislative Assembly chamber.

The excursion allowed us to better understand the operations of the Parliament as a law-making body and see how the law-making process works through a real example. We also learnt about accessibility that the institution of Parliament provides for the general community to make their voices heard to influence law reform.  Overall, It was a really valuable experience that will help us understand and apply the practical uses of the knowledge we have learnt throughout the year.
