Alumni Association

This year, the GEC Alumni Program has seen so many former students give back to their old school in meaningful ways, and seen students learn from relatable role models about life after high school.

In Term 1, Eliza Sharpe (class of 2018) and Sunrita Bhattacharya (class of 2016) created inspiring videos for International Women’s Day. The two spoke about their post-school journeys and encouraged young girls to believe in themselves and overcome adversity.

In Term 2, Mailys Perfrement and Khyati Singh (both from class of 2015) spoke to a Year 11 Business Management class. They shared their experiences studying this subject and how it led them into their HR/Marketing and Accounting careers.

Bekk Crombie (class of 1999), an architect living and working in WA, met online with a Year 12 Visual Communications class and explained the importance of the client-designer relationship, helping the students write a report on their current area of study.

To finish off a busy Term 2, Morgan Edwards (class of 2018) and Gal Gross (class of 2017) came back to share the benefits of studying humanities subjects to our Year 9s. With these students soon selecting their Year 10 subjects, it was beneficial for them to learn about the career pathways and life skills humanities subjects can teach.

In Term 3, four alumni joined the Year 10s to discuss the significance of work experience and VCE subject selection. Nick Holmes (a teacher, class of 2009), Anna Nguyen (a lawyer, class of 2009), Maria Mazis (a clinical embryologist, class of 2015) and Andrew Wilson (a sales assistant and aspiring entrepreneur, class of 2017), encouraged the students to use work experience as a trial to see what they may or may not enjoy doing as a career.

In Term 4, four alumni from the most recent graduating class of 2021 shared their best VCE study tips with the current Year 11s. Joseph Folwell, Richard Shao, Grace Rockman and Alexander Leathley prepped next year's Year 12s about the importance of maintaining a good balance between social life and academics, stress and applying for uni.

Maria Mazis also came back to continue the tradition of a GEC alum presenting the graduating speech to the Year 12s at their valedictory. Maria touched on how all students should be proud of their achievements so far and encouraged them to stay connected with GEC through the alumni program.

There is even more in store for the alumni program next year and we can’t wait to keep you updated!

If you would like to stay in the loop, you can follow our GEC Alumni Facebook Page. Here we celebrate the successes of our Alumni since leaving GEC and post photos from sessions we hold throughout the year.

A big thank you to all the wonderful and willing alumni who volunteer their time to come back to GEC and impart their knowledge and life experiences to students. If you are an alum or you know someone who is, please reach out to us at alumni@gec.vic.edu.au. We would love to hear from you!
