A word from the Learning Enrichment Team (formerly Learning Support)

enrichment

noun

The act or process of improving the quality or power of something by adding something else.

With change comes exciting new perspectives and pathways, and our Learning Support Teaching Team has experienced some big changes over the last year. The changing of staff, the implementation of new programs and the way we enhance student wellbeing support has continued to evolve. As a team, we have engaged in many discussions with the need to think critically and creatively about the dynamic role of a Learning Support Teacher here at Good Shepherd, including our support within the classroom spaces, our intervention programs, within our office space and within the wider parent community.

We believe that the Learning Support role has grown to be so much more than assisting with the writing of Individual Learning Plans, referrals and liaising with allied health professionals. As we have all seen over the last few years, wellbeing support – particularly for anxiety or regulation – has become a necessary and growing area where students require 1:1 intervention and documentation so we can see patterns in behaviour. Relationship building and academic support coupled with this wellbeing approach encompasses much more than what our ‘Learning Support’ title describes. With deep consideration, our team proposed a ‘rebranding’ to a name we could grow with – the Learning Enrichment Team. The vision and mission that underpins our team, as well as our aims for each Stage within Good Shepherd is outlined below.

Vision and Mission

Through collaborative and open conversations, we aspire to support and empower our community members to celebrate and value diversity.

The LINC Hub

The purpose of renaming the Learning Support Office has grown from the need to recognise this space as more than an office. In the past, visiting the Learning Support Office has often been seen as a space that may be more for Junior Primary students, where students that need ‘extra help’ go. It has become a place where all children feel safe and can seek connection and regulation. From the beginning of 2023, the Learning Support Office will be referred to as the LINC Hub. We have chosen this name because it encompasses what we are able to offer our students – Learning, Intervention, Nurture and Connection.
