Grade 4-5 -6

It's a wrap!

What a year we have had in the 456 area! We thought we'd celebrate with a few highlights from the teachers' perspectives...

Jose: We have enjoyed seeing everyone's growth academically through conversations in our workshops and class Collectives and Showtimes. Our sausage sizzle was an amazing feat in feeding the whole school and a great way for our Year 6 students to contribute to the Big Day Out festivities in December. Our 'Cultural Week' activities have been a great addition to the curriculum, celebrating our Spanish program in many different ways, from performances, to art and craft.

Kylee: School camp was a highlight for me! The activities allowed everyone to get to know each other in a less formal way. Being adorned with snorkels tends to do that! Seeing students try to figure out how to put on and take off a wetsuit was hilarious! I also loved seeing our Year 4s come into the space and see their confidence grow as each term progressed. The Big Day Out was a great way to see persistence and resilience at work! Everyone stood up on a board by the end of the session, but I think Clara cheated with the 1:1 time she spent with our instructor...sink or swim, as far as I'm concerned! (And yes, I may have broken some toes following a freak wave accident!). Wishing all of our Year 6 students the very best of luck in Year 7...you'll ace it!

Lisa: Camp was the biggest highlight for me.  We laughed so much and getting to spend time with the kids outside of the normal classroom context provided me with some unique insights that I feel have been invaluable.  Urban Surf with the grade 6's on Tuesday was also pretty cool.  They were awesome and we had HEAPS of fun!

Clara: From a Spanish language perspective, 2022 has also been a fantastic year. We have seen an enormous growth among our students in terms of confidence, engagement and language. Students participated in a wide variety of learning experiences such as games, songs, independent and group reading and writing.

And the most exciting part of all? There was so much speaking in Spanish!

We had 3 (and the 4th term coming up next week) amazing cultural weeks. These experiences play a key part in our bilingual program because the students are provided with the opportunity to immerse in a culture of the Hispanic world.

This year we have explored the fascinating cultures of Colombia, Perú, Spain and Mexico. We learnt about their First Peoples, fabulous places, stunning nature, delicious food and much more, whilst engaging in Spanish language experiences.

We are very proud of you all and we can´t wait to see what 2024 will bring!
