NYSF (National Youth Science Forum) 2020

Congratulations to Cameron Fernandopulle and John McDonald on their acceptance into the NYSF Year 12 program for 2020. This is a 12-day residential program designed to give students a broader understanding of the diverse study and career options available in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and to encourage continued studies in these fields.  At the NYSF Year 12 Program, run in January each year, participants will visit science and technology related laboratories and facilities, go on site tours, listen to lectures, take part in workshops, go to social events, and participate in group activities that improve communication and presentation skills.

Cameron will be attending the program at The University of Queensland in Brisbane and John will be attending the program at The Australian National University in Canberra. We wish both boys all the best for the program and look forward to hearing all about it next year.

Science Club for 2020

The SPX Science Department is proud to announce the commencement of a Science Club in 2020.

This club will be mainly for Year 7 and 8 students to begin with and selected senior leaders. It will run every second lunchtime and will involve a variety of Science activities.

Any current Year 7 students wanting to be involved with the development of the Science Club and senior leaders are invited to attend another meeting in S2 this Thursday at 1pm.

#SPXfavbooks2019 Christmas Greeting from the Library

This year our entry display extends a Merry Christmas from all our favourite books. Identifying our most popular fiction books is helpful to students in selecting books to read these holidays. Our students enjoy UNLIMITED borrowing and a wide variety of books to choose from. As well, if you run-out of print, our ebook and audiobook collection is available anywhere in the world, https://stpiusx.wheelers.co

Number One on our top charting books was Andy Weir’s The Martian. Director, Ridley Scotts’ film adaption is available from College’s Clickview library, supporting many students who like to “see the movie, then read the book”.
