HPV and SPORTS NEWS

The HPV Team have been working tirelessly to raise funds for the program. With their efforts they are looking forward to the delivery of 2 new vehicles and 6 tents. The students have been sourcing donations and sponsorships. They have written letters, made follow up phone calls and presented talks to various local companies. The companies that have assisted our school’s program are Clemenger (Advertising), Fonterra (Mainland Cheese, Western Star Butter etc), Drinkwise (Responsible consumption of Alcohol), Mars Chocolate (M&Ms), Mars Pet food (Pedigree), 2XU – (Sportswear), and Traffik Marketing.
Paul McMillan has been upgraded to legend status for his help in teaching the students how to run a successful sponsorship campaign, connecting and raising the profile of MERT with the companies listed above and his sourcing of tents from Karma Beach Pty Ltd. He was able to secure a great discount on tents for the students.
A big thank you to Mount Eliza Rotary for their kind donation to enable us to buy new cycling shoes and cleats for the team. Much appreciated given the state of the old ones.
The HPV Team will be hosting a meat tasting fundraiser on October 26th at the school. Anyone interested please contact Heidi Lockyer or Laura Collard. All you need to do is to taste some beef and then fill out a very short questionnaire about the meat. We need 60 adults to take part.
We are also looking forward to a trivia night early in November. There have been many prizes donated by local merchants. Watch this space for further details.
13 of our Dinky Dots and Speed Demons (year7 and 9) took part in the MS Megaswim over the holidays to raise money for MS. The team between them had to swim for 24 hours which was a big effort. We were the only all student team and also the only team where all participants stayed for the full 24 hours. Between them the team swam 67.3km. Members of the team were Imogen Cunnington, Taylah Lobb, Tilly McMillan, Isobelle Edwards, Lachlan Harrison, Madison Lockyer, Carolyn Van Der Bijl, Adam Sharp, Poppy Rich, Lucaya Rich, Jamey McMillan and Fern Edwards. We were also helped out by Alice and Millie Cunnington and Scarlett Lockyer (siblings of our swimmers).
On October 8th we had three teams compete in the Casey 8 hour race. We had 24 students from Year 7-12 in the vehicles. We were very lucky in that the weather was beautiful and very little wind. The students rode very well and the vehicles stayed on the track for the entire race. Our Year 7 girls’ team, Dinky Dots, won the Round 5 All Female Junior division. We are now gearing up for the big 24 hour race in November.

2016 has been a very successful year as she is the State Champion (VIC), Australian Open Champion and now Oceania Champion. We are very proud of her achievements as this is the first year of being part of the Australian Team.
Well Done Alex!
2016 Sports Award
It is with great pleasure we announce Sophie Strickland as the 2016 Sports Award Recipient.
The Mt Eliza Secondary College Sports Award seeks to recognise students who have represented the school with distinction across a range of sports during their time at the College. As well as this, they have demonstrated characteristics such as fair play, self-discipline, teamwork and leadership, combined with strong desire to succeed.
Whilst not always ‘the best’ at a specific sport or activity, Sophie’s attitude of ‘giving it your best’ is a great example to all, especially in the area of women’s sport. Her willingness to assist and promote a healthy lifestyle is a great example of for all at Mount Eliza Secondary College. Well done Sophie and best of luck in the future.
