VCAL - YEAR 12 LAOS TRIP

YEAR 12 LAOS TRIP

The Senior VCAL group, after months of fundraising, spent their final weeks as secondary school students in Laos. The experience was incredible - we lived with the locals, volunteered in a remote village, mixed concrete, carried bricks and roof tiles, plastered, helped take care of elephants, learned about the importance of elephant conservation and spent time with some amazing people.

We are so much richer for this experience. We learned the value of kindness and generosity. We were able to see, first-hand, the power and importance of community, family and travel.

Kym De Wit and I were so fortunate to travel with this amazing group of students. Their generosity and hard work was admired by program leaders and locals and, for only the second time, the village held a farewell ceremony where the boys were adorned with gifts and wishes of luck and prosperity. It was a very special experience and one I hope will continue to inspire the boys to give generously and be grateful.

It has been a long year of fundraising though I am proud to report it was definitely worth it. We will miss you all - VCAL won't quite be the same without you!
