Lest we Forget:  Prayer for Remembrance Day

The College held its annual Remembrance Day Assembly on Monday to mark the 100th Anniversary of Armistice Day, 11 November 1918.  The College was joined by a very large number of Old Boys, members of the community, the Consul General of PNG, President and members of the Chatswood RSL Club.  Together with parents, members of staff and the student body we marked the solemn occasion in prayer, silence, the Last Post, lowering our flag to half mast and reciting The Ode, followed by Reveille.

We will remember them.

LEST WE FORGET

PRAYER FOR REMEMBRANCE DAY

Today we remember with thanksgiving those who made the supreme sacrifice for us in time of war.

We pray that the offering of their lives may not have been in vain.

Today we dedicate ourselves to the cause of justice, freedom and peace;

and for the wisdom and strength to build a better world.

We are grateful for their courage, their sacrifice and for the peace and freedom

we have in our nation because of them.

We pray that we who remain will learn from their example of faithfulness and endurance.

Please comfort those who mourn.

Thank You, Lord, for the peace and joy that we can find through faith in Christ.

May we come to know You and the everlasting life You offer to those who will receive it,

through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Volunteers' Christmas Gathering

Year 7 Orientation Day

On Tuesday the College hosted its new Year 7, 2019 students and parents at the College's Orientation Day and there is so much excitement in looking forward to their arrival in 2019.  I share with you a few photos from their visit.

Founder's Day - 23 November 2018

On Friday 23 November the College will host its annual Founder's Day at Oxford Falls.  This is a community day and many parents join with us to offer lunch to the students.  I thank the P&F in anticipation of their assistance on the day.

Our special guest is former Australian cricketer, Steve Smith, who will be speaking to the boys about overcoming adversity, resilience and also about his own personal journey.

A unique opportunity for St Pius X College has presented itself to make a brief appearance in an advertising campaign on television and the internet this summer. The address by Steve Smith and Gus Worland to the school next week is to be filmed as part of an advertising campaign for Vodafone and they would like St Pius X College to appear in this campaign. Steve Smith and Gus Worland have been asked to encapsulate what it means to be gutsy and share the journey they are on both personally and professionally. In particular, their coming together for Gotcha4Life and changing the perception of men’s mental health. While only a small handful of students will appear on screen, any concerns should be directed to me.

Please advise the College if you do not wish your son to be photographed or to appear in this filming.

2018 High Achievers

Special congratulations to three of our Year 12, 2018 HSC students who have received special recognition from NESA for their practical works. Congratulations to:

  • Jack Moran – nominated for ARTEXPRESS (Visual Arts)
  • Hunter Clarke – nominated for ENCORE (Music)
  • Callum Stephen – nominated for ONSTAGE (Drama)

Year 12 Formal

Last Friday evening our Year 12, 2018 cohort, along with their partners, parents and the staff celebrated the conclusion of their secondary education at the school formal which was held at Curzon Hall in Ryde.  This was a wonderful evening and I congratulate all our young men and their partners on the evening.  I share with you a few photos from the occasion.

Blessing and Opening of Workul Koo

Next Monday 19 November CBHS Lewisham and St Pius X College Chatswood will join together to bless and name our shared retreat centre at Wamberal.  This beautiful facility will be blessed by Fr Paul Finucane and opened by Mr Peter Leuenberger, Assistant Executive Director EREA.  The new name of this facility, previously known as Huntington House, will be the indigenous name, Workul Koo, which means 'One God'.  I will share some of the photographs next week.

St Pius X College uses this facility as part of its retreat program, Year 9 camp program, outdoor education, staff professional learning as well as formation and retreats.

Youth Discipleship Awards Nomination

Congratulations to Lachlan Donlevy, James Bleasdale, Tim McLachlan, Sam Schyvens (Year 11) and Taylor Alan (Year 10) on being nominated for a Year of Youth 2018  “Youth Discipleship Award” for their involvement in the “Mary of Now” performance which took place during plenary sessions and at the Closing Ceremony of the Australian Catholic Youth Festival in December last year.
