YEAR 10 ART ELECTIVE EXCURSIO: ‘Van Gogh and the Seasons’ at the NGV

On the 25th of May, 50 students from the Year 10 Elective ‘Painting and Drawing’ classes attended the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) to see the 2017 Melbourne Winter Masterpieces exhibition ‘Van Gogh and the Seasons’. Students were given a lecture by an art educator and then they viewed the exhibition before participating in a painting workshop. The Van Gogh exhibition is the largest to ever travel to Australia and our students made the most of this great opportunity by asking lots of questions and then creating their own colourful and textured still life paintings.

*The Arts Specialism team would like to thank the NGV and its supporters for providing our students with the opportunity to attend the exhibition, participate in a painting workshop, and for providing every student on the excursion with an exclusive NGV book.

Studio Arts

Congratulations to all Year 12 Studio Arts students for recently completing their Unit 3 SAT folios!  Students worked hard throughout the semester not only during class time, but also in their free periods and after school each day. Through each student’s individual studio practice they have developed an Exploration Proposal that outlines the parameters for their artistic exploration. It includes their inspiration, conceptual possibilities and art forms to be explored so they can successfully communicate their ideas through a series of potential directions. In Unit 4 the students are looking forward to developing their strongest potential directions from Unit 3 into final artworks, which they will curate for display!

VCE MUSIC RECITAL CONCERTS

On Thursday 25th May, both Year 11 and 12 Music classes held a concert in front of their friends, parents and teachers as a part of their ongoing assessment for VCE. Recitals are an important part of preparing students for their final exams as well as being a fantastic way to challenge them and help them build essential skills for performing in front of live audiences. On the evening the students performed a broad range of songs catering to all tastes. From Bob Marley to Miles Davis, Beyonce to System of a Down, with some throwback Tom Petty in the mix. It meant a lot to our students to have a friendly and supportive audience. Thank you to all who attended and assisted in making the evening a success.

DRAMA EDUCATION AT MELTON SECONDARY

On the 8th of June, Year 10 and 11 students from MSC were fortunate to be visited by the Melbourne Theatre Company who ran a professional rehearsal workshop with each class which focused on the work contained in the play Melbourne Talam.  Both these classes are studying this play as part of their analysis of professional performance.  Year 10 Drama class attended the play the next day at Geelong Performing Arts Centre, and also had the wonderful experience of a Q&A with the director and the actors afterwards.   It was a great way to finish off the Year 10 Drama Semester – and an experience to remember!
