VCAL Year 7 Picnic:

Last Friday, Year 7 and the VCAL students travelled to Brimbank Park for the VCAL Picnic and activities. The day was a great success with students engaged in many different and challenging physical activities. Students also had the chance to work with other students and with VCAL Students who provided the activities for the day. The response from students following the day was positive and a certainty to be revisited in the future. Many thanks must go to Mr Daniel Taylor and Ms Alex Hardisty for their organisation and efforts with the VCAL students. Thanks also to those teachers who provided their time to be there on the day.

Middle Sub School

Year 9 and 10 students will be receiving their reports this week.  In Tutorial next term students will be reflecting on their results.  We urge you to please access your student’s report on COMPASS and reflect on their results with them.  The beginning of Semester Two is an excellent time to remind and encourage students to either continue with or begin good study habits.  Important skills students need to master include time management and being organised.  Encouragement from both home and school assisting students acquire these skills, will help as they transition from Middle School into Senior School.

Parents and carers can support students by asking: “What do the STARR values ask students to do at MSC? Which values are you doing well at? Which ones could you do even better at?”  Try to:

  • Recognise that ‘failure’ is the first step towards success.
  • Remain calm and relaxed during stressful situations
  • Don’t ‘mentally tune out’ and allow negative self-talk to take over when faced with something new and/or challenging
  • Set realistic goals
  • Plan your time and utilize your plan to become efficient and productive
  • Complete tasks on time and avoid feeling guilty and anxious about your efforts – do your best
  • Remain optimistic – find the good in situations
  • Take responsibility for your own learning
  • Celebrate your achievement in meeting your goals

Attendance

Regular school attendance is one of the major factors contributing to a child’s wellbeing and success. Our vision is for all students to achieve academic excellence, develop positive peer relationships, and reach their potential and their individual pathway. Regular school attendance facilitates these outcomes directly.

Every student is expected to attend all scheduled classes and school activities, and to attend punctually. The College expects that all students attend 100% of scheduled classes, assemblies and compulsory school activities.  Students are required to attend a minimum of 95% of classes to be considered eligible for satisfactory completion of that year level.  Please contact the sub school if you want to discuss our attendance policy further.
