Year 11 (2018) Parent Information Evening

We would like to invite all Year 10 parents to the Year 10 to 11 (VCE/VCAL) Information evening which will be held at Melton Secondary College on Wednesday 19 July. The meeting will take place in H5 at Melton Secondary College from 6.00 pm – 7.00 pm.

This is a very important time for Year 10 students as they will soon be required to make a decision about which senior school program, either VCE or VCAL, they will enroll in for 2018.The purpose of the session is to share information regarding the important decisions students need to make for their career.

The Parent Information Evening is an important first step which all parents and students must attend.  At this information session you will be provided with information on the following:

  • VCE courses
  • VCAL
  • VET
  • Course Counselling
  • Y10 Work Experience

Please place this date in your diary and be sure to attend this important event so that your child is able to make the best decision for his/her future.

Year 11 (2018) Course Counselling Day

The second important date in Year 11 Course Counselling is the Course Counselling Day. This will happen on Tuesday 25 July between 12.00 pm and 7.00 pm. On this day students are expected to attend a 20 minute course counselling appointment with their parent/carers where they meet with a trained course counselor. Regular Year 10 classes will not run on this day.

An important part of the appointment is for each student to present as if they are attending a job interview. For this reason students are expected to attend neatly dressed in either full school uniform or formal attire. Each student's presentation will include:-

  • An explanation of the careers they are interested in and why
  • Which pathway (VCE or VCAL)  they are considering and why
  • What they know about the subjects they need for their preferred pathway – apprenticeships, university etc.
  • What else they need to find out in order to make the best choice
  • The subjects they are thinking of choosing and what the entry requirement is for each.

Students also need to bring the following documentation with them: –

  • A copy of their 2017 Semester One results,
  • A copy of their Career Action Plan (the CAPs have been completed in their tutorial sessions)
  • At least 3 samples of their best work – from any subject

To make an appointment you will need access to your parent portal on Compass. If you need or have forgotten your log in details, please contact the schools main office on 9743 3322. When booking please select any of the available Course Counselors, however, you son/daughter may wish to choose someone they are more familiar with. More information about this is available on the Compass News Feed.

By the end of session your son/daughter will have a clear idea of the pathway and subjects they intend to follow in 2018.
