STEM in Foundation
The Three Little Pigs
Over the last two weeks children in Foundation have been engaged in a STEM activity- build the house of the third little pig.
The criteria of the build was that the house had to be big enough to hold three glue sticks (pigs) and the house had to have a chimney that is wide enough to have another glue stick fit inside (the Wolf).
Children engaged in the Engineering Design process of asking questions, imagine a solution, plan, discuss, create and improve their design. Children had to work in groups which can be hard sometimes and change their designs when they didn’t work.
Each group presented to the house their house. They had to test their design using glue sticks and share with the class what worked well with the group and how they overcame challenges.
STEM is a great way for children to develop perseverance, resilience and collaboration skills. It is also lots of fun!
