ARTS DAY
UNESCO have identified the week of May 22-29th as a week to celebrate the importance of Arts within Education. Here at St. James, Tuesday saw the children involved in day of creative activities as part of Arts Day. The students from Years 2- 6 all took part in an African Drumming Workshop that allowed each child to be part of the drum circle with their own instruments and enjoy the rhythms, songs and dances of Africa. The halls and classrooms were awash with sounds, from Karaoke to instrumental compositions, dancing sessions and drama games. A huge thank you to all the teachers who enthusiastically stepped out of their usual teaching roles and sang, danced and played their way through the day. We cannot underestimate the value of Arts within Education and the role it plays in the cognitive and social development of our children.
After a morning of solid fun but lots of concentration the children relaxed and enjoyed watching “The Lion King” in preparation for the musical next semester.
Kate Kennedy
Performing Arts Teacher
Mrs Kate Kennedy provides such an enriching Performing Arts program to our students and we are so fortunate to have her. Occasionally throughout the school, we are beginning to hear a jungle roar and refrains of "Can You Hear the Love Tonight".
