Class News

Year 1

At the moment the Year 1 and 2 children are very excited to be a part of STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics) Friday.

Each Friday afternoon the children from Years 1 and 2 are given a variety of materials i.e., Lego, straws, cubes, building blocks etc.  They then create anything they would like, either working on their own or with a group.

It has been wonderful to observe the children's enthusiasm, joy, excitement and creativity when taking part in these activities.

During the next few weeks the children will be asked to design 'something' specific which relates to the story 'James and the Giant Peach'.   Stay tuned.

Year 2 Mass

On Sunday the 21st May the Year 2 students celebrated their first Sunday class Mass. The children participated in the Mass beautifully and they all carried out their special jobs with reverence and enthusiasm. Yve, Abbey, Olivia V. and Caroline decided to run a stall after Mass to raise money for Caritas. Along with their parents, they baked cupcakes, cookies and made cards to sell in order to raise money. The stall raised $63 which is a tremendous effort. It was a wonderful sight to see the Year 2 community gathering after mass whilst enjoying a cupcake! Thank you to all the parents and the Year 2 children for making the morning a wonderful celebration. A special thank you goes out to Mrs Busch, Miss Dillon and Mrs Ohlert for coming along to support the children.

Foundation Storytime 2017

On Wednesday 24th May, the Foundation children at St James participated in the National Simultaneous Storytime reading the official book, ’The Cow Tripped Over the Moon’ by Tony Wilson.

The book is based on the nursery rhyme ‘Hey Diddle Diddle’ and focuses on the cow in the rhyme. In the story, the cow who jumped over the moon actually made seven attempts before getting there.

At 10:45am all the St James children sat down and read the book. The children listened to a story about perseverance, friendship, resilience, positive self-talk like ‘I can do it!’ and supporting others.

After reading the book, the Foundation children created beautiful paper plate craft which is displayed in the hallway outside the classroom. Please pop in and have a look!

The book is available to be borrowed from the library and shared at home.

Reconciliation Week

It is Reconciliation Week next week (27 May – 3 June). This year's theme is 'Let's take the next steps'. In class next week the children will create a school display which could be a great way to start the conversation of what 'let's take the next steps' might mean in terms of Reconciliation Week.  This year marks 50 years since the 1967 referendum, and 25 years since the Mabo decision so it links in nicely with "Our Story'.
