Prayer: All Souls' Day - 2 November

In the month of November we remember our loved ones who have passed and we ask God’s care over them and pray that one day we will be reunited in God’s Kingdom.

The College has a Remembrance Book in the foyer and members of the community are invited to list the name/s of their family and friends we wish to remember in prayer. This Remembrance Book is taken to Tuesday morning Mass in our Chapel and is the subject of our prayers throughout the month. Parents and students are welcome to make entries into the Remembrance Book.

Jesus, dear Saviour, on this day we prayerfully remember

all our loved ones who have died.

Please give them comfort and hope and may they be at peace,

knowing that they will rest in God's arms eternally.

Thank you for our memories of them and for the good times we shared.

We ask You, please, through their intercession, to deepen our faith,

strengthen our hope and increase our love that we, too, may someday stand before You,

ready to enter Your Holy Kingdom.

Amen

Their lives change but do not end

A Prayer Offered by Pope Francis

We entrust to you, O Lord, the souls of our beloved dead.

May none of them be afraid to meet You, after their earthly pilgrimage,

but may they always hope to be welcomed in the embrace of your infinite mercy.

Lord, may no earthly thing ever separate us from You, but may everyone and everything

support us with a burning desire to rest peacefully and eternally in You.

Amen.

Year 12 2020 Leadership Investiture

Last Thursday 31 October, Mayor Gail Giles-Gidney and Fr Jim McKeon were the College’s special guests at the Leadership Investiture of our new student leaders. Captain Lachlan Mathie gave one of the most extraordinary addresses from a School Captain.

Lachlan announced that the theme for 2020 which the students have developed is STRENGTH THROUGH SUPPORT with the catchcry, “Pursue your Passion”!

Lachlan spoke to the students, staff and parents when he said:  “All of us need each other, no one can succeed alone, yes we can pursue our passion alone, but I can assure you all that the string you tread on is going to take you a lot further when you have people right there behind you.”

Lachlan’s full speech is attached below.

Year 12 2020 are all leaders and will do a great job. I congratulate all our leaders and the Student Leadership Team listed below.

Bishop Anthony Randazzo Installed as Bishop of Broken Bay

The College was proud to be part of the congregation last night for the Installation of Bishop Anthony Randazzo and we pray for his Ministry in the Diocese. We look forward to an opportunity to welcome Bishop Anthony to the College in the new year.

Years 5 and 6 Orientation

Last Saturday the college welcomed its soon to be 2020 Year 5 and new Year 6 students at the Orientation morning at the Chatswood Campus. They are a very keen and enthusiastic group of bright young men. There is no doubt that they are the future of the school.

Revision to 2020 Term Dates

An important change has been made to the Term Dates for Term 2 in 2020.  ALL staff and students will return to school on Monday 27 April and the Staff Day (Pupil-Free Day) scheduled for Monday 27 April will now take place on Friday 5 June.  This is the Friday before the Queen's Birthday long weekend which will give students a four-day break from school.  This change has been highlighted in the document below.

C Block

At the end of this week, we will have emptied C block of all its contents and ready to hand over to the builders, Grindley Interiors, who occupy that part of the school from Tuesday 12 November. All safety and security precautions will be put in place. The building works will be completed in time for the start of the 2020 school year.

P&F 2020 Office Bearers

At Monday night’s P&F AGM I offered sincere and heartfelt appreciation to the 2019 P&F Office Bearers. They were a new committee this year and they have done a great job and enjoyed working together for the school and become good friends in the process.

Farewell to Roslyn Gaston

It is with deep appreciation that I thank and farewell Ms Roslyn Gaston who has worked at the College for the past 18 years. Roslyn is responsible each week for the publication of Woodchatta and she also assists in the details on our website and the College App. Roslyn has organised the bus and rail transport for our students throughout these years. I know that the P&F are also appreciative of Roslyn’s support, as are all our staff. Roslyn leaves us to live on the Sunshine Coast and we wish her every happiness and blessing for the future. In every way Roslyn’s many skills, high efficiency and her generous and caring nature will be thoroughly missed. Best wishes Roslyn.

Liam Knight/Greg Wade Benefit Dinner

The community gathered together in support of Liam Knight and Greg Wade last Friday evening at North Sydney Leagues Club where 400 guests enjoyed an evening of great company and entertainment. Triple M radio personality Gus Worland and FOX Sports Braith Anasta were our co-hosts and were great comperes. Liam and Greg offer their thanks to the St Pius X College community for a wonderful evening and for the ongoing support they have received.

SPX Remembrance Day Ceremony

Monday 11 November:  Parents are welcome to join the College for the annual Remembrance Day Ceremony which will be held in the Junior school yard. Parents are asked to be seated by 11.00am as the ceremony will commence at 11.10am.

Canteen Helpers – We Need More Helpers Urgently

The canteen has operated this past week with very small numbers of volunteers on certain days. On one day last week we had no-one but the canteen manager. Another day we only had one helper.

We need your help.

Please contact Anna or Marianne on 9414-4301 or email acoombs@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au or merickson@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au  if you can help even for just one day before Christmas.  We really appreciate the help of all parents and we do have a generous spirit in the school.

Remember:   “Whenever the call of duty sounds…..”.
