Teaching & Learning in 3V

These past several weeks have seen 3V learning new routines and establishing our expectations and class culture. Despite some interruptions, we’ve pushed through and have had some fabulous successes! These are some of our more recent highlights.

All the ways to BE Smart

As a part of celebrating our differences and learning to support each other’s successes and strengths, we read All the Ways to Be Smart by Davina Bell. It is a fantastic book which explores all the things that people can do that deserve recognition and celebrating.

Following on from our discussion about ‘book-smart’ not being the only way to be smart, students produced some great responses.

Word-Building and Boggle

As part of our VCOP wall and process of fostering a love of literacy, we have been co-constructing a ‘Vivacious Vocabulary’ display. Whenever an outstanding word is used or discovered, whether in student work or stumbled across in conversation or a text, it is added to our wall.

Building on our word appreciation and recognition in 3V is our recently-introduced Boggle board. Using the given letters, students are challenged to come up with as many words as they can on a weekly basis, with the winner receiving a mini chocolate bar or some Skittles from our class vending machine.

It has been quite interesting to see the different texts and processes used by members of the class to help them come up with words, and I’ve already been blown away by the creativity and drive!
