Wellbeing MATTERS!

Wellbeing MATTERS!

Dear Families,

This week's Wellbeing page outlines some important information regarding the upcoming National Day of Action (NDA) against Bullying and Violence on Friday 19 March.

The NDA is a day of national significance for Australian schools to Take Action Together and say Bullying, No Way!                                                                                                                            By being involved, our whole school community reinforces our fostering of an environment that promotes learning and wellbeing, and collaborative approaches to addressing issues of bullying and violence.                                                                                          Whether you're a Parent, teacher or student or member of the community, everyone has a role to play.

At Sacred Heart we maintain a culture of ‘no tolerance’ to child abuse and bullying. We are committed to the care, safety and wellbeing of all students at our school. All staff must be familiar with and committed to Sacred Heart’s Child Safe Policies.  We are aware of the potential of harmful effects of bullying, including online bullying (cyberbullying) on young people and take reports of bullying seriously. The primary aim of our response is to restore a positive learning environment for all. Positive responses are based on the understanding that our children are in the process of learning how to be a member of the school and wider community.

As a family in our Sacred Heart community you can support us so we can be much more effective in dealing with bullying by reporting it and supporting our efforts to deal with it.  If your child reports that bullying is occurring at school, or the bullying involves students from our school, outside of school, you should let us know the situation.  Working together is the best way to help your child.

So our PBIS student team and the staff wellbeing team have been working together to make our plan to “Take Action Together and say Bullying, No Way!”  The students have presented our “Action” to the school and have been visiting classrooms to remind fellow students of our “Action”. We’ve posted on PAM and Facebook too!

On Thursday (tomorrow) we ask all students and staff to bring to school an old t-shirt that they can write on in texta a KINDNESS WORD OR MESSAGE.  We will meet together as a school at 2.20pm so the PBIS team can further talk about the NDA and help our students to appreciate our ACTION matters!

Their kindness message or word will be written on their shirts (it would be very helpful to staff if this can be done at home) and then written on the ground in the quadrangle in chalk…….imagine over 250 messages in our quadrangle!  What a powerful message we will deliver!

Students will then be able to wear their t-shirt to school on Friday over their school shirt to show their support for the NDA and our school’s ‘ACTION’!

We will be collecting a gold coin donation on Thursday - money to go to the ‘Children’s Helpline’.  Students will also receive a zooper dooper on Thursday.

Take a look at Elsie on the Athletics day…

The PBIS team will also be handing out ribbons / wrist bands with the message “Bullying, No Way” to students and information cards to Parents on Friday morning before school.
