What's happening in the classrooms

We have been very busy over the past few weeks in the senior school. A few weeks ago the Year 6’s had a visit from an organisation called House Spirit. During the incursion, the students began to develop ideas to increase the house spirit within our school. They are very keen to begin planning and organising things to do with all the younger students.

In Reading, we have been using a variety of strategies to develop our abilities to better comprehend a text. So far we have looked at asking questions before, during and after reading as well as visualising. We are immersing ourselves in various biographies in Writing to gain a better understanding of how they are structured and written. This will help the students to write biographies of their own.

In Inquiry our big question is “What’s our story?” and we have been exploring immigration in Australia. Students quickly came to realise that we each have very different stories and that they are influenced by our parents’ and grandparent’s lives.

In Religious Education we are learning that Lent, Holy Week and Easter are a time of reflecting on how we live and act. Students explored what relationship and community are through the Lenten practices of prayer, fasting and almsgiving, and in the events of Holy Week and Easter. The year 6’s are now beginning to delve deeper into the Stations of the Cross which we will be presenting to the school at the end of the term.
