Starting the Year Off Right
On Monday 1 March, Junior School held the first Year 7 Values Assembly for the year, where the achievements of students were celebrated including the inaugural award winners. Meet the team:
Hello, my name is Paul Broecker, and I am the Assistant Principal in charge of Year 7 and 8 and our curriculum programs here at HPSC. Last year I joined HPSC because I want to make a difference to the lives of our young people. I am passionate about Social Justice and want to help create a school where students not only feel safe, supported and highly connected, but feel empowered and in control as a learner and leader within the school community. Every student, no matter their background or circumstances deserves the very best education that prepares to succeed in the complex world of work they’ll face. I believe in personalising learning to increase students’ engagement in learning to maximise outcomes; ensuring no student is left behind or held back.
Hi, my name is Fiona Vanstan, and I am the Junior School Leader this year. I started working at HPSC in 1999 in the role as Year 7 Leader, teaching PE, Health and Psychology. Since this time, I have held many other leadership roles, having spent the last few years in the Senior School. I am passionate about education and empathetically addressing the individual needs of students – resulting from my own personal experiences with my teenage children in their own education journey. I am proud to be a member of the HPSC community and in supporting the learning of students at the school. I am fortunate to work in a school which values diversity and am grateful that my knowledge continues to grow as a direct result of my interactions with our students.
My name is Cassandra Tucker, and I am the Year 7 Student Learning Leader for 2021. I have been at HPSC for seven years and teach Legal Studies and Business Management primarily in VCE. I have previously been a Learning Leader in the Middle sub school and am new to junior school. My hobbies include; playing tennis, reading, going to the gym, walking the dog and hanging out with family and friends.
My name is Madeleine Blake and this year I am one of the Year 7 Student Learning Leaders. I have been teaching at HPSC for just over 12 months now and I really love the school. I grew up on the Mornington Peninsula, and went to Monash University where I studied both literature and drama as a part of my teaching degree. Before working at HPSC I spent 2 years teaching in England. I loved the time I worked over there, but much prefer the system and students here in Australia.
My name is Brad Andrews and I have been at HP since Term 2 last year. Prior to this, I worked in the primary sector as well as at Parkdale Secondary College for just on 10 years. I teach a large range of subjects, specialising in English and literacy, as well as music (school of rock) and VET- Business Management. Prior to teaching, I worked as an integration aide as well as an instrumental music teacher. I have played drums in a number of bands, having success in the music industry and getting the chance to tour Australia as well as Japan, playing numerous festivals and concert halls and also performing to 100,000 people on AFL grand final day. In my spare time, I can be found playing drums, at an AFL match, supporting the Western Bulldogs or spending quality time with my family- 3 year old son, Leo and newborn, Marcus.
Welcome to 2021- my name is Chris Knowles. I have had the honour to be involved with this school community for over 16 years and I couldn’t think of a better place to spend my workday. My aim as a teacher is to support the students holistically, both within and outside the classroom, and push students to be the best they can be. As a member of the YR 8 student management team I try and celebrate student growth, highlight the success of out students and challenge each member of YR 8 to live to Values of our College as we build towards a Graduate Profile. YR 8 is the best year level in the school by far- a time to build friendships and start picking subjects so you get a taste of what your future may look like. I look forward to working with you all this year.
Hi, my name is Joanne Miller. I have been working at Hampton Park Secondary College for 2 years as the Junior Sub School Assistant. And I love my job. I have a Border Collie dog called PJ and I take him on walks twice a day. I have been on many holidays to countries around the world such as America, England, Antarctica and countries in Asia. I enjoy reading, gardening and spending time with my family.
