Assistant Principal Report

By Mr Ben Welsh

What an amazing start to the year we have had at Glen Waverley Primary School! As I reflect on the deep learning that is occurring on a daily basis at our wonderful school, I am drawn to the thinking process our students need to apply in the classroom. There is a strong connection within our STEAM Program between the STEAM process and this metacognition.

This year the STEAM Innovations program will continue to build students deep understanding of identifying, researching and solving real world challenges using STEAM. Students will use a global lens and the use of data to really understand a concept derived from their Enquiry Units. It’s this deep and rigorous understanding that will help them create and design products using many of our fantastic tools such as 3D Printers and Laser Cutter. If you walk past the STEAM room during the day, you might see our students collaborating, discussing, analysing data, measuring and designing. This is the thinking process our students go through to explore a deep understanding and solve global challenges!

If you are walking past the STEAM room, feel free to ask me any questions about the STEAM process and I will be happy to explain how our students approach the challenges presented to us from a global perspective.
