STUDENT TECH TEAM

The Student Tech Team is an opportunity for students to gain job readiness skills in IT. A chance to get hands-on, industry experience across a large variety of technologies whilst contributing your time, ideas & skills in support of IT operations at McKinnon. 

By the time you leave McKinnon, our goal is for you to have the skills & experience to work in an entry level IT job — Right out of school.

The Student Tech Team has been a massive learning experience for me and has helped me improve my IT skills vastly. It has proven to be a professional environment where I have learned more than I could have on my own. In the year and a half that I have been in STT I have learned how to fix Windows, AV and Mac issues as well as being able to operate Class Technology.

Student Tech Team is a fantastic after-school program, where tech-savvy students get the perfect opportunity to hone their technological skills. Whether it be helping solve tech-related issues around the school, such as auditing and fixing AV issues in the classroom, or testing out new technology which can be used to create a fun, educational experience for emerging students, such as controllable LEDs, Student Tech Team is full of opportunities and learning experiences.

This program aims to not just be any other regular extracurricular activity. It's almost like being a part of the tech staff in a way, and that not only makes it so unique, but it paints a realistic picture of what it would actually be like if you were part of a tech team such as the one at our school. We are very lucky to be at a school which offers this program, as very few other schools has a program quite like it. If you are interested in technology or helping others with technology, you should definitely check it out and consider joining.

As a new member to the Student Tech Team this term, there has been so much to learn about technology around the school, and how things work behind the scenes. There is always something interesting to work on, and it is a great opportunity to improve your technical skills.

The Student Tech Team is open to all year levels at McKinnon. Students must apply and pass basic training to become a Student Tech Team Member.
