Japanese News

By Yoshida 先生 sensei

It’s great to be back onsite for Term 3, with all those classes that have been patiently waiting for their Semester 2 turn at Japanese. Many of the Year 1s were remote learning around this time last year, and have never had a face to face lesson in our special Japanese room, until now.

The most exciting news for Japan and our Japanese program is the Tokyo Olympics, running currently. It’s great to have students show an interest and feel proud that the international spotlight is on the country they’ve been learning about. Many thanks to Alice V in Year 5 and her Mum for sending in a video of Alice singing the Japanese national anthem during the opening ceremony. What a great effort!

Also, thanks to our Japanese Captains, Erik H and Elsie B who ran a wonderful session about the Tokyo Olympics during Japan Club, last week. Japan Club runs every Thursday lunch. Erik and Elsie do a fantastic job planning and leading the activities every week, to a dedicated following of regular attendees. All students are welcome.

For the classes doing Japanese this term, the key word is Review. We spend a number of weeks reviving and consolidating language content from previous years to build a solid collection of things students know and can express with confidence. We will also be making contact with our sister school in Yokohama and continuing the friendships with Japanese students that start in Year 1.
