Under the Spotlight

When I was in primary school I was lucky enough to go the Sydney Olympic games with my family. We stayed at my cousins’ house and the whole family of grandparents, many aunts and uncles, and 9 cousins squeezed in together! It was so much fun and the highlight was sitting in the stands, watching Andrew Hoy and the Australian Equestrian team win gold.

Liz Charles

Hello, my name is Liz Charles and this is my 5th year teaching at OGPS. I currently teach Year 3 and P.E.

I grew up in the leafy suburb of Greensborough in Melbourne with my big family. I have 6 brothers (no sisters!), 5 of which are older than me. We luckily had a very big backyard to keep us busy. My mum was born in Italy and she is an amazing cook. I love to visit her because she gives me lots of tips and cooks up a storm. Every year in February we have ‘Sauce Day’ where we make a few hundred bottles of passata. It’s my favourite day of the year.

I moved to Torquay in 2016 with my partner Shaun. We have a dog named Ted and a son named Knox who is almost 2. Knox likes to help me in the garden and we dance to The Wiggles almost every day. We bought and renovated a small 1980s caravan last year, so one of our favourite things to do as a family is go away on trips together.

I love all sports (go Blues!). Growing up I was a gymnast for 10 years and then became a gymnastics coach. Even though I can’t do as many tricks as I used to, I still do handstands most days. I also LOVE surfing. I first learnt to surf in the Philippines in 2016 and now it is a big part of my life.

I feel very grateful to live where we do and love teaching the wonderful students at OGPS. If I haven’t met you yet, I hope to meet you soon😊.
