YOU CAN DO IT!

Welcome back to Mellor...a respectful community of powerful learners!

Welcome Back for Semester 2.

We can all agree that Term 3 has not begun anything like we thought it would!  Whilst it has presented many challenges for all, we are very proud of the way each and every Mellor student adapted to the on-line learning and embraced the changes that needed to be made. Students displayed many of our school's values of Resilience, Persistence, Confidence, Getting Along and Organisation on a daily basis.  After the first day it was fantastic to see our students confidently navigating their way around the Google Classroom and Meets. They were successfully able to mute and unmute themselves when they wanted to speak and demonstrated patience to wait their turn to speak. It definitely was new learning for all and even the staff learnt new skills. We are very thankful that we were only learning at home for a short while and we got to see our students back in person.

There were many highlights during the first semester and many memories were made. The Mellor students enjoyed presenting their learning at many assemblies, celebrated Harmony Day with their buddy classes and a number of sports clinics.

In Term 2 we went on a fantastic excursion to the Dream Big Festival at the Festival Theatre where we watched "The Magic Beach". A particular highlight was the robot that we met outside of the theatre. We finished off a very busy term 2 with a disco after school and a Day on the Karrawira Parri celebrating NAIDOC Week. We walked down to the River Torrens, listened to Jack Buckskin talk about the way the Kaurna people lived in our area and all of the fantastic resources they used on a daily basis in our natural environment.

As we settle into Term 3 we want to remind families of the importance of regular home reading.  It is an expectation that reading is recorded on  a daily basis in your child's InitiaLit Reading Diary. Tricky Words (in the back of the diary) should also form part of this daily practice.

The Homework Grid now runs for the whole term and is published on the Mellor Google Classroom for students and families to access. We enjoy seeing student's home learning and we encourage your child to bring in these things to share with us.

The Premier's Reading Challenge needs to be completed by September. Well done to those students who have completed the challenge. There is still time to complete the form and return it to the library. If you need another copy, you can download one from the Premier's Reading Challenge website or below.

We look forward to meeting with everyone again during the goal setting conferences in weeks 4 and 5.

Kind Regards,

Mellor Team
