Focus on French

Bonjour à tous!

It has been fantastique to finish this term with everyone back together at school!

Year 5 & Year 6

Students explored how different French texts use language in varying ways. They drafted letters in French and applied appropriate vocabulary such as the use of ‘cher’ – ‘dear’. Students posed questions to their intended audience such as ‘où habites-tu?’ - ‘where do you live?’ They also worked in groups to create short skits to consolidate their pronunciation of high-frequency vocabulary.

Year 3 & Year 4

Students have learned vocabulary related to ‘la salle de classe’ – ‘the classroom’ such as ‘le crayon’ – ‘the pencil’, etc. They then began to develop their knowledge of language related to directions. Students participated in a range of experiences to apply this vocabulary such as playing the game Twister in French e.g. ‘pied gauche bleu’ instead of ‘left foot blue’.

Year 1 & Year 2

Students learned about la famille – family this term. They participated in a range of activities including playing ‘Loto’ or ‘Bingo’ in order to develop their vocabulary knowledge. Students also created their own family tree, which they labelled in French.

Foundation

This term Foundation students have learned numbers to ten in French. They developed this knowledge through tasks including whole class performances of songs, drama games and simple labelling activities. Students also completed matching tasks using ‘tens frames’ and cards with written French.

Berthe Mouchette Poetry Competition

This term 42 Year 4 students volunteered to participate in the annual Alliance Française Berthe Mouchette Poetry Competition.

This competition involves the challenging task of learning a French poem by heart. Participating students had their poetry recital recorded and then submitted to the Alliance Française for assessment. Examiners will assess students’ pronunciation, intonation and ability to recite the poem from memory.

Students who participated in this competition will have the opportunity to enjoy un chocolat chaud (hot chocolate) et un croissant together early next term to celebrate their hard work.

Félicitations! Congratulations to everyone who participated!
