Welcome to 2022 which promises to be a great year in learning and teaching at Reservoir High school. Students have made a great transition back into the classroom. Walking around the school you notice students high level of engagement in the learning activities taught by the teachers. From the new Year 7 classes to the senior classes, a positive and productive climate is evident.

Our first teacher-parent-student conferences are next week on Wed 2nd March - 12:30-8:00pm. These 10 min conferences are an opportunity to share important information about how your child learns best, their interests and strengths. We hope you can make it. Bookings are filling up fast so please log into Compass to make your booking today.

We have completed our Term 1 round of diagnostic testing for students in Year 7-9. These Progressive Achievement Test and the OnDemand tests give valuable information about our student numeracy and literacy levels. All data is used by teachers to understand the needs of individual students and cohorts. In Term 4 we will retest students to measure their learning growth which is a real priority for the school. We understand how important it is for our students to be literate and numerate as they emerge into a world that increasingly demands these skills.

One of the fabulous things about RHS are the range of literacy and numeracy supports that are avaiable to students in Year 7-10. We have a dedicated team of teacher tutors who have been working in and out of class to explicitly teach the skills of reading, writing and numeracy. The literacy support curriculum is being developed and improved all the time and will be led this year by our new literacy learning specialist, Ashley Hudson. Jim Ringin continues to lead the numeracy support program which not only builds fundamental maths skills and maths fluency, but also offers extension maths opportunities.

Please don’t hesitate to contact the school to discuss literacy or numeracy support opportunities for your child.

Finally, I just wanted to alert all staff, students and parents to a fabulous fundraising opportunity to be launched next week. The RHS Cadbury Chocolate Box Drive. Please see the flyer attached to this newsletter to express you interest in purchasing a box of Cadbury chocolates for your family or to sell within your social networks. The money raised will go towards purchasing and fitting seating for our student in the school grounds. Get On Board - just in time for Easter!
