A message from the Principal
As we approach the end of February, we have already been back at school for 4 weeks. It has been a very busy 4 weeks. I would like to take this opportunity to formally welcome all of the new students and their families to the Reservoir High School community. We hope you have enjoyed your first month as part of Reservoir High!
Last night I had the pleasure to attend our annual Year 7 Parent BBQ evening. A big thanks to all the students, families and staff who were able to attend last night. It was lovely to get together in an informal way, share a bite to eat and meet each other to discuss how we will work together. We heard from our students about their experiences in their first month as High School students, and got to see videos of the students in activities such as the Amazing Race and the Year 7 Camp.
A big welcome also to students and families who have joined us at other Year levels. We warmly welcome you to Reservoir and look forward to working together to achieve success for your children.
In 2021, Reservoir High was recognised by the Age newspaper as the Winner of the Northern Schools 'Schools that Excel'. This award recognised the exceptional outcomes and student achievement in both the VCE (ATARs) and VCAL with student pathways in 2020. In 2021, our VCE results were even better! For the 7th straight year, the achievement and outcomes of our students in the VCE and VCAL have improved.
As a Principal, I love seeing when students achieve their goals and ambitions, especially those students who achieved great results in their VCE exams and gained entry to their tertiary 'dream' courses. I am also filled with pride when students at our school get accepted into university and they are the first in their family to attend university. That is a great outcome. Finally, I am particularly pleased when students transition into Apprenticeships and Traineeships of jobs and careers they are passionate about.
A big thank you to all the students, families and the teachers of the Class of 2021 for their exceptional achievement. Well done and congratulations!
Our 2022 Building project is getting closer to commencing. This will see a new Food Technology and Visual Arts building to provide modern learning spaces. The project is expected to start in April.
Work is continuing on the refurbishment of our external Basketball Courts. This will see the welcome addition of more outdoor play spaces for our students. Work is expected to be completed this term.
We are also in the process of adding more outdoor seating around the school. This has been an issue since the old C Block building was demolished in 2021. This will include bench seating, picnic style tables and undercover seating areas.
Schools are not funded for outdoor seating or play areas- unless special grants are received. Very rarely are High schools winners of these grants. In order to provide the best possible outdoor seating and equipment, we are engaging in a whole school fundraiser. I highly encourage all families to get involved with the fundraiser and help raise money for more equipment and outdoor spaces for our students.
Today is the final day of the mask mandate in schools. A big thank you to all students, staff and visitors for supporting keeping the whole community safe through the wearing of masks while at school. We know this has not been easy.
Even though no longer mandated, the wearing of masks at school by students or staff can continue based on the personal choice of every individual in the school. Please also note that masks MUST be worn by students when on a bus (either school bus or public transport) or when catching a tram (unless an exemption applies).
The school will continue to operate within COVID safe guidelines, especially around the use of ventilation and the use of air purifiers in classrooms.
In 2022, we have re-launched our extensive lunchtime clubs program. With over 20 lunchtime clubs, there are activities to suit the interests of all students. Please have a conversation with your child about connecting to a club they are interested in- as it promotes connection to peers, connections to school and staff, and connections to passions and interests.
See the page in this newsletter for more details.
The successful outcomes for our students is built on our mission and values.

We are a high expectations school- especially with the achievement of our students, and how we demonstrate respect. Our High Expectations are matched with clear consequences and a restorative approach to working with young people.
In all of interactions, our Mantra of-
