Principal's Message

Hi everyone, Another lockdown. Number 6.0. Bah Hum Bug……
I can only say I feel totally deflated and “flat” about this situation. I know that I am in a very long queue of cranky people, but there is zero we can do about it.
Now that I have had my grumble I can’t say thank you enough to the entire College staff, students and families for the work they do and they way in which they respond to return to lockdown again……
This style of learning will continue until at least Thursday of next week and hopefully we will be back to face to face on Friday 13th August.
Fingers crossed this lockdown will only last 7 days, but when we do return I need to “lay a few cards on the table” ………… Returning to on-site learning has proven to be very unsettling for students. The routine and structure and rigour of school and how it works gets a little lost.
The main culprit ……... these darn phones.
They are addictive, addictive almost like a drug and the students just seem to be totally obsessed with them. I do believe that this is constantly reinforced every time we have a lock down.
Please support us and your children by having a chat to them about phone use and being able to actually live without them for a few hours.
The other ‘trick” is parents texting their students during class time. This is not helpful. Do I sound frustrated? Yes, I am and so are the staff at having the same challenge every day. Your support would be great, thanks.
I constantly say that I am happy to chat, so if you want to discuss this further or any school related matter, please make an appointment.
Please be reminded of the school protocols around picking up students. Every time a student is picked up during the school day, this must go through the main office, so that we are aware. An hour was wasted earlier this week searching for a student who had “gone missing” between classes. Only to find the parent had collected them from the front of the school without letting anyone know. It just highlights that we constantly have to work and communicate together.
Having said that, please be sure to complete your parent opinion survey if you have been selected. 349 families have been randomly selected to complete this survey to provide the College with feedback around a number of areas. These include school climate, general satisfaction, communication, academic rigour and more. For the 349 families the survey has been sent to your email address and needs to be completed by September 3rd. We have a team of support staff who are calling families to double check that you are aware of the survey and offer any help if needed to get it completed. All information is 100% confidential and helps us in our drive to be constantly improving all that we do. Thanks, I look forward to reading the information.
Something to Ponder: I am a self confessed sports tragic and am loving the Olympics! They are however contributing to few late nights! 😊
To say that you are an Olympian, is such a privilege and honour – but certainly we can not all attain this goal of Olympic status (regardless of how much we might like to). But so many fantastic stories of courage and resilience exist every day in our community. We need to always recognise these and applaud them loudly. Who would be your local hero?
Thanks for sharing your children with us and “always happy to chat”.
