Principal's Report
Vermont Secondary College
Early this week I wrote my message to the school community for this week’s newsletter on how great it was to have everyone back in the college! This much short-lived state of affairs has now been overshadowed by lockdown number 6.
A huge thank you to the students and staff in the way they have yet again responded to affairs beyond their control with little-to-no warning. As I have previously mentioned, it is important that we work and live within the parameters that we have some control over, such as quality time with immediate family, keeping in touch with friends and extended family via various forms of social media, use of exercise time to get out and about, and acceptance of the current situation rather than rallying against it.
Despite my dislike of the term the ‘new norm’, that is the situation we find ourselves in and, in present time and for the foreseeable future, it is the ‘new norm’. Until the majority of the population is vaccinated, immediate action on lockdowns seem to have the desired affect particularly if we look at the NSW situation as an example of what not to do.
Stay safe and if your young person needs support please reach out to the staff at Vermont - classroom teacher, Student Manager, Head of House, Wellbeing Team etc.
Take care, Tony
Premier's VCE Awards
Unfortunately, the official ceremony for the 2020 Premier’s VCE Awards has been cancelled for the second year in a row. The Premier’s VCE awards recognise the outstanding results of individual students and pay tribute to the principals, teachers and families who play a valuable role in supporting these students during their VCE studies.
Despite the cancellation of the award ceremony, congratulations go out to Eric Wong of Year 12 in 2020 for receiving a perfect Study score of 50 as well as the Premier’s Award in Further Mathematics.
A total of 297 Victorian students received 323 awards across 90 subjects including 297 Study awards, 23 Top All-Round VCE High Achiever Awards and three Top International Students Awards.
A fantastic achievement Eric; on behalf of the school community, congratulations and well done!
WE WANT OUR PARENTS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!
Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents think of our school. The Parent Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training that is conducted amongst all parents. It is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of parents’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, student engagement and experiences of remote and flexible learning. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.
All parents will be invited to participate in this year’s survey. All responses to the survey are anonymous.
This year, the Parent Opinion Survey will be conducted from Monday 19th July to Sunday 22nd August 2021.
The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the fieldwork period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones.
The online survey will be available in a range of languages other than English. These include: Arabic, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Chin (Hakha), Hindi, Japanese, Somali, Turkish, Punjabi and Greek.
