A big shoutout to Ciara (2A) and Sebastian (4B) who feature in our newsletter cover photo today - it looks like you had a great time creating some art at the beach!

Prep

Where were you on the holidays? Position and location are the focus for maths and literacy this week with students learning to describe where things are, and to make it extra fun we played a game called "copy-cat" using objects from around the house.

Feather is the word of the week, and our enthusiastic preps have been exploring descriptive adjectives.

Live Library sessions with the lovely Sophie will be a highlight for many this week - we also know you read heaps of books over the holidays! Send through a photo of yourself with your favourite holiday book to Benita.

Check out this super learning from some of our Preps.

Grades 1 and 2

Mathematics

This week our students are showing off their multiplication and division skills - in term three they put a huge amount of effort into mastering these skills and we can't wait to see what they can do as we recommence our Maths groups.

Writing

And what better way to start the new term than to write about the holidays! This week also sees the start of a new inquiry topic - students will be writing fact files on toys.

Take a look at the grade 1/2 wellbeing padlet, which includes some wonderful pictures of what everyone got up to on the holidays:  https://padlet.com/BBPS/wellbeingBBPS

Grades 3 and 4

In English, students are gaining and understanding of compound and simple sentences, and using coordinating conjunctions to join two ideas into a single sentence.  They're also being inspired to write like their favourite authors.

Equivalent fractions have provided the challenging focus in Maths. You may have noticed some fraction strips on our "Dates to Remember" photo today - thanks to Charlotte W for this well executed example.

And for SEL our students have been filling jars with glittery emotions and are stretching their muscles and relaxing their minds using yoga!

Finally - take a look at the padlets below, which celebrate the successes our students are sharing. One showcases their incredible passion projects, and the other includes shoutouts for amazing effort, inventive creativity and outstanding work.

Years 5 and 6

Our senior students are tackling some important life skills this week: Budgets! They are learning to calculate yearly, weekly and daily income (gross and net) including looking at tax, superannuation and expenses.

Our senior students are also practicing for their poetry slam performances (watch this space for more information!).  They're also working on podcasts - we can't wait to hear the results.

In English they are becoming art critics, describing artwork and analysing its form and meaning.

And in Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) they are learning about stress and how to manage it.

And finally - check out the flags and uniforms they have designed for their "Wacky Races" STEAM project:
