Schools are so much more fun with kids!

This week our school community has had a sneak peak of what’s to come!  Schools are very boring places without children.  The sights and sounds coming out of the playgrounds and classrooms this week have been so fulfilling!

My highlight, as always, playing outside with the Preps!

Term 4 Curriculum Day (Report Writing) - Friday 19th November

Friday 19th November will be a Pupil Free Day.  As usual, our school’s Term 4 Curriculum Day will provide teachers dedicated time to complete their December Student Reports.

Students requiring care for the day will be able to book into Out of School Hours Care.

2022 Curriculum Days and First Day Back

Our staff will use Friday 28th and Monday 31st January (Curriculum Days) to prepare for the school year.

Tuesday 1st February we will welcome back all Prep – Year 6 students.  Prep students begin part-time, not attending on Wednesdays until the 23rd March.

Our remaining two Curriculum Days for 2022 will be Tuesday 15th March (Whole School Professional Learning: 6 + 1 Traits of Writing) and mid-November (Report Writing)

Well done CHAPS!

Well done to the CHAPS team on the success of the Chocolate Drive which netted the school $8,822. Their collective efforts have fully funded the installation of the six Prep and Junior 8ft Basketball Towers.

December Reporting

Many Department of Education requirements have been adjusted to reflect the school year’s COVID-19 disruptions.  As a result, student reporting in Semester 2, 2021 will focus on what progress has been made and what has been achieved by each child.

For English and Mathematics the report will:

  • contain a short description of what was taught
  • report achievement by making a teacher judgement against the Victorian Curriculum F-10 achievement standards (including Towards Foundation Levels A-D)
  • report progress since the last time the curriculum area was reported on
  • include an age-related five-point scale.

For all other curriculum areas, delivered reports will simply have a short comment on progress and achievement in their learning across the semester.  NB: Not all curriculum areas were delivered, eg:  Visual Arts.

Year 3 - 6 Students - Mask Wearing

To support a safer learning environment, the Victorian Chief Health Officer has mandated that students in Year 3 and above are required to wear face masks whilst indoors at school, including at Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) programs, unless a lawful exception applies.

Students with a medical condition or disability that make wearing a face-covering unsuitable are not required to wear a mask.  Parent/carers of a student/s who meet the criteria for an exception must provide their approval in writing for their child/ren to not wear a mask to the school.

Families that require support with this requirement are asked to work with Carol Wyatt and their classroom teachers on this.

Students in Years 3 – 6 without a mask or exemption will receive a parent email notification of their non-compliance to this CHO mandate.

Being Good Neighbours

Finally, with a return to school of greater student numbers I remind parents to please be considerate when parking on our local streets for drop-off and pick-up.  Please do not park over driveways or in any position which will impede access for our neighbours living close to the school.  After being so long confined close to home, it is easy to forget that we are part of a larger community.  As we make our way back into a wider world please be mindful of our school's neighbourly obligations.
