Education Week

The theme for Education Week this year was “Celebrating the arts”. Student engagement in the arts can help improve educational outcomes by boosting motivation and creativity, building confidence and self-esteem, cooperation and collaboration. To recognise Education Week, Lower Primary opened its doors to the parent community, holding an open morning where parents were invited to engage in art activities with their children. There was a range of fun hands-on activities which gave students and parents the opportunity to experiment creatively and they did some amazing things together!

The Preps listened to the story “Brown Bear, Brown Bear what did you see?  Students worked with their parents to sequence their names and create an art work using a variety of craft materials in a specific colour.

PJL listened to the story “How the kangaroo got its tail” Students worked with their parents to complete a dot painting of a kangaroo with a sunset background made from paper.

PLB listened to the story “Please Please the Bees”. Students worked with their parents to complete some very colourful bumble bees

PNC talked about the cultural identity of the families within the class. Students then completed an Australian flag with their parents.

PKD watched and listened to the interactive text “Monsters Under the Bed” and then worked with their parents to create a monster using a blow painting technique.

PLW, PHT & PKW focussed on African culture and made African bead bracelets with their parents.

There was also a display of artworks by students in the main corridor which focussed on aboriginal stories completed during the integrated unit.  Our students wrote stories after being immersed in  a wide range of “Dream time “ stories and  completed paintings on rocks, bark and paper using aboriginal symbols to guide them. The display will remain in the corridor for another week or so if you have not had the opportunity to view it. Our students are always thrilled to have visitors in their classroom and loved working on their art works with their parents.
