SCHOOL SELF-REFLECTION
Dear Parents and Carers,
Every four years government schools in Victoria develop a strategic plan, that outlines the vision and values of the school as well as reflecting on the framework for improving student outcomes (FISO). Essentially, we ask ourselves, "How do we continue to improve as a school?"
We are currently entering into a self-reflection phase of this process, where we seek communication and feedback from our community to help fully inform our self-evaluation. We would like to invite parents to be a part of some small focus groups to contribute to this process.
The dates for these focus groups are:
Prep - 2 Parents: Wednesday, 23rd May, 2:00pm
3 & 4 Parents: Wednesday, 30th May, 2:00pm
Venue: Meeting Room 1, in the Office area
Please click this link to RSVP
Secondary parents focus group dates will be published shortly.
These meetings are being facilitated by a mix of Collingwood College staff including Euan Morton, Katherine Watson, Amy Reid, Campbell Gome, Sormeh Afkari. We would welcome a small, but representative group of parents to participate in these discussions at 2pm on these dates. If you cannot make these dates but would like to contribute, an online form will be distributed later in the term.

RAINBOW / IDAHOBIT DAY AT COLLINGWOOD COLLEGE
On the 17th May, Collingwood College celebrated rainbow day, a day in which the school recognized and celebrated the LGBTIQ+ community within Collingwood and the wider world. This day was a very successful day, full of fun and acceptance. We sold Rainbow ribbons & cupcakes and also raised the Rainbow flag with the money going towards a local organisation called YGender who support gender diverse young people.
This day was hosted by the PRIDE CLUB, a group of young and inspirational students who are on a mission to spread the message of the fact that love is love and that we all must understand this. This club meets up on Mondays to chat and discuss their future plans for both their club and what they can do for the school. The club also has a leading member of the SRC, Oisin O’Leary attending so that the club has a voice within school leadership. This club will continue to thrive and spread the message of charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent and above all - acceptance.

AUSTRALIAN MATHEMATICS COMPETITION
The Australian Mathematics Competition will be held on Thursday, 9 August.
That seems like it's still a long way away, but entries need to be in by Thursday, 31 May.
This event has traditionally been well represented by our students, and there are many past papers for students to practise with beforehand.
Please add your child's name if they are interested to the Google sheet below with link:
https://goo.gl/forms/vG9LKlJ3YVe4xQhh1
The school will then enrol these students in the Australian Maths Competition.
The cost this year is $8 per student.
Students will need to pay through Compass once enrolled. Parents will be notified when enrolments are confirmed in June. Don't pay until then.
Those students who have done the Maths Competition in the past have enjoyed it and they all receive a certificate for their participation and achievement.
Thank you

MANDARIN SEGMENTS - EDIBLE MATHS
Last week Class 2C were curious about how many segments there were in a mandarin. Every day we counted up how many segments there were in our morning tea and lunch time mandarins and made a graph of the results. Eleven segments was the most common, but there were also quite a few with thirteen, twelve or ten segments. Mandarins with nine or fourteen segments were very rare. We had no mandarins with more than fourteen or less then nine segments.

CHINESE CULTURAL DAY CELEBRATION FOR NON-CHINESE BACKGROUND STUDENTS IN THE CHINESE CONSULATE-GENERAL
On Friday afternoon, May 11, 2018, The Chinese Language Teachers Association of Victoria (CLTAV) organized a Chinese Cultural Day for the Year 9/10 students of non-Chinese background across Victorian Schools in the Chinese Consulate-General in Melbourne. Ten students from our Year 9/10 classes participated in the celebration. There were lots of Chinese cultural activities and performances there. It was very nice to see eight of our girls singing the Chinese folk song “Jasmin” on stage. They did a great job there and everyone enjoyed the afternoon. It was a very windy and wet day, and it was so nice that Dale drove us to the celebration. We are very grateful for your leadership support, Dale.
