From the Principal Class Team

Dear Parents and Guardians

As many of you would be aware, exams have commenced for our Year 10 and 11 students; and Year 9 semester tests are coming up. At recent assemblies, Sub School teams gave very clear advice to students about how to prepare for tests and exams, and about what effective study practices look like.

Three key actions for success are:

  1. Complete all of the set work/homework
  2. Make multiple choice topic/chapter summaries
  3. Do practise test or exam questions

We also encourage students to see their teachers for extra help and support with their work.

Welcome

We are pleased to welcome Ms Julie Crosbie to the Maths Department and Mr Benjamin Cooper to the English Department.

On behalf of all the staff, we wish Julie and Ben all the very best for their time at St Albans Secondary College.

Intercultural Champion

Over the last 12 months, Ms Piera Biondi has participated with teachers from approximately 30 government schools in a professional learning program with the Department of Education. The purpose of the program was to support ‘intercultural champions’ to introduce the Intercultural Capability into the curriculum program at their school.

The Intercultural Capability is one of 4 general capabilities within the Victorian Curriculum. The other 3 are the Critical and Creative Thinking, Ethical, and Personal and Social capabilities.

Piera explored what it means to develop intercultural awareness and understanding, as well as what opportunities exist for this to be incorporated into our curriculum. At the final day of the program last week, she presented a unit of work and a fabulous short film about what intercultural understanding means to our students and staff.

Congratulations and thank you to Piera for enriching our curriculum and understanding.
