Debating

Senior Debating

Last Monday, 20 May the senior debating teams all won Round 3. For three teams their topic was unseen. This means they were given the topic an hour before their debate. They are not allowed to use phones or devices during their planning.  The B Grade team’s topic was ‘that we should ban private cars’-they were on the negative and the C grade teams were given ‘that we should raise the minimum age’. Both C grade teams were on the affirmative. They knew the broad area would be economics and they had been thorough in their preparation of possible topics.

Currently we have 2 teams on top of the ladder - B grade team 1 and D grade team 2. Our other teams are not far behind and all teams have shown great progress. It is impressive to watch.

The next round will be held on Monday, 17 June although our C grade teams (Year 10) will debate each other the following week here on campus at 4.30pm. Year 9 students have stepped up each week to fill in for absent year 10 students and it is a credit to them for being so flexible and capable.

Congratulations to all debaters for their dedication and commitment to improving each round.

Junior Debating Year 7 & 8

Notes have been distributed for junior debating. We will be allocating teams and have our first training session this Thursday, 30 May at lunchtime. If you are interested you should see Ms McKenzie.
