Primary School

Head of Primary
There has been a wave of illness through the Primary School lately and we pray that very soon all our students will be 100% and back at school, ready for all the exciting experiences that are planned for the coming weeks.
The Year 3/4 teachers are busy planning the camp for next week when they head to Camp Manyung for three days. Many interesting activities are planned and it should be a wonderful time of learning for the students.
In preparation for the Year 5/6 Camp in Week 8, the students have participated in an excursion practising getting on and off trains, following the safety advice they received from the ‘Metro’ Incursion.
Striving for Excellence
Last week, selected students from Year 3-6 sat for the Australian Mathematics Competition under test conditions. They had to complete 25 multiple choice questions, and 5 open ended questions within 60 minutes. The students’ attitudes to the challenge of the competition were very impressive.
Global Academic Challenge
Last term, seven of our Year 5/6 students participated in the Global Academic Challenge. The areas of the Challenge were Reading, Mathematics and Science. Our students received 15 certificates between them with two of them being High Distinctions. Congratulations to these students.

Getting Ready for Prep
Earlier this week, the ELC 4 students had a visit to the Prep classroom to begin their transition for 2024. They sat on the floor and listened to a story before choosing from a range of activities. The current students in Prep/1M did a great job looking after the younger children.

Prep Integrated Studies
To start the term off in Integrated Studies the Preps were learning about materials. During one of our lessons, the students made a collage and labelled the items with adjectives related to how it felt.
Prep Buddies
During Buddies, Prep B and 3/4K listened to two of the ‘Shape Trilogy’ books by Jon Klassen and Mac Barnett. The activity with their buddy was to then draw a picture using only a square, triangle or circle.

Music Showcase Evening
Last Thursday 3rd August, we were once again treated to an evening of wonderful musical performances on piano, guitar, violin and voice, as well as many ensembles. This was a great opportunity for these students to share the efforts which they have been putting into their instrumental learning over the year so far.
Thank you again to our wonderful instrumental teachers, who have put the time and effort into teaching our instrumental students and contributing to the success of the Evening: Elizabeth Mallen (piano), Emma Rogers (piano and woodwind), Jacob Mahoney (guitar), Mark Berry (guitar), Bernadette Mether (voice) and Rupert Balint-Smith (strings). Thankyou also to students Ezra Dixon and Anais Smales for their help in setting up the equipment beforehand.
Thankyou also to all the parents, family members and friends who came along, and for all your ongoing support for the Music department!
Mr Dave Mallen, Music Coordinator
