From The Classroom

Numeracy

Our Year 6 students are completing a Geometry unit which has focussed on shape and angles. At this level students estimate, measure and compare angles using degrees. They also construct angles using a protractor. Students need to investigate angles on a straight line, angles at a point and vertically opposite angles, and they need to use these results to find unknown angles.

The rich task for this unit asked the students to apply all of these skills in the design a golf course. The golf course had to meet several criteria. Here are some completed courses that were designed by students in 6JK.

CLaS

This week in CLaS, we continued our focus on Empathy. Our CLaS sessions form an important part of our whole school leadership program. It is through this program that students learn how to engage respectfully. Teaching our older students how to alter their body language so that younger students feel safe and comfortable is an integral part of our teaching in  these sessions.

How much sleep do children need?

We all know how a lack of sleep can impact on our ability to engage in work and play. In our work with students, we often notice tiredness and therefore engage in conversations about healthy bedtime routines. The graph and link below may be of interest when confirming healthy routines for primary age students.
