Samoan Language Week:

We are making a big effort to be ever more inclusive in all we do at Western Heights. Our Pasifika children are proud of their culture, language and heritage. Last week our Samoan children had their opportunity to share and shine.

We proudly flew the Samoan flag from our flagpole, and our lunchtime dance-stage sessions featured lots of cool Samoan songs - and our children proudly brought out their own Samoan flags to dance with.

Carol is an amazingly awesome mum, teacher aide and proud Samoan. Her sons are equally proud of their cultural heritage. Two, now at Liston College,  returned to perform the Sasa at our Samoan Language Week Whānau Time Assembly.

Auri - only nine years old - performed Fire Juggling with his uncle for us at an outdoor assembly. It was quite incredible to hear 700 children and adults chanting Auri's name as he performed - and he took it all in his stride like a true professional (and still only nine years old as mentioned!)

Room 3 children did cool art and stories. Room 17 children produced stunning Samoan-themed art too.
